fINK PRESS is thrilled to announce the release of Until You Grow Tall, our very own Ruby Fink's latest children's book. Written for her niece and inspired by the birth of her new nephew, the book is a collection of lessons from an older sibling to a younger one, reminding audiences of all ages how we can look out for one another and continue to pass on kindness. The story sweetly outlines the many ways in which we might learn from our family, from things as simple as tying our own shoelaces to the more complex task of facing our fears, knowing that our loved ones have our backs.
A reviewer from The Wishing Shelf Book Awards stated, "Being a parent, I loved not only the simplicity of the message - be kind to your siblings - but also the way it's put across. The vocabulary is well-chosen, the rhyming is, well. yummy, and the meter...is spot on." They add that finding just the right flow for a book designed to be read as a bedtime story can be challenging, but that it exceeded expectation for rhythm and accessibility to the intended audience.
Until You Grow Tall is Fink's second published picture book, and her fifth published story. It joins The Dreaming Tree and the three books currently comprising the Mickie McKinney: Boy Detective series. The illustrations were completed by the talented Sophia Mayhugh in their second creative collaboration following The Dreaming Tree.
The release comes just three months after the birth of Fink's nephew, and three weeks after her niece's second birthday. As the book concludes with the sentiment that the mantle passes on and the sharing of knowledge is a responsibility we must all bear, it seems fitting that its publication date coincides with her extended family stepping into their new roles. The youngest becomes the elder, the eldest remains the teacher, and the baby joins a family that will strive to instruct with kindness, grace, and compassion for all.
Until You Grow Tall is now available to order on Amazon.
